The ‘Freddie For A Day’ initiative was launched in 2010 by The Mercury Phoenix Trust and is held annually on his birthday. The Mercury Phoenix Trust – fighting Aids Worldwide - was founded by Brian May, Roger Taylor and their manager Jim Beach in memory of rock band Queen’s iconic lead singer Freddie Mercury who died in 1991 from AIDS.
In the last 26 years the
Trust has given away over 16 million dollars in his name and funded over 700
projects in the global battle against HIV/AIDS.
This celebration was
created to bring people together to raise awareness and charitable donations to
support the work of the trust, who work to fight AIDS worldwide.
Carnaby’s shops, bars
and restaurants will join in the festivities to collect donations for The Mercury Phoenix Trust by selling the famous
Freddie ‘tache and donning their best Freddie attire. (We recommend wearing
yellow. Freddie’s favourite colour.)
