Esin Akan launched her eponymous
London based label in 2012 after forming a wealth of knowledge within the
handbag and leather goods industry; working at some of world’s most reputable
fashion houses including Burberry. Whilst at Burberry, Akan specialised in
design, production and sourcing leather goods and handbags, developing strong
links with the top leather tanneries and leather manufacturing companies around
the world.
A graduate of Central Saint Martins and the London Business
School, Akan founded her label after establishing a gap in the market for
handbags that offered a stylish solution for busy, independent women.
Akan describes her design ambition as “helping busy women
look stylish in every situation; from the office to weekends with friends,
nights out, and even the gym”; creating bags that seamlessly transition from
day to night, work to events and remain timeless.
In 2012, Akan was awarded ‘Top Business Opportunity’ by
London Business School and selected as one of the five LBS incubators, enabling
her to turn her concept into a real business. The brand was selected as a
finalist for the Vogue Designer Fashion Fund award by British Fashion Council
in 2013 and has also been sponsored by Deloitte Institute of Entrepreneurship
and Innovation and Landor/WPP.
As well as being Managing Director and Designer at Esin Akan,
Akan also offers her expertise as a consultant across Design, Creative
Direction, Product Development and Sourcing.
