The week long ‘Carnabee’ takeover is in support of Defra’s campaign to raise awareness of bees
and other pollinators – and importantly, what we can do to help them thrive.
Bees are responsible for 80% of the pollination that occurs in the world and
play an integral part of pollinating plants, food crops and sustaining the
entire food chain. Pretty important stuff.
Carnaby is
already home to over 1,000 flower window boxes with
pollinating flowers and in addition to this, homes around 30,000 bees in
hives across the Carnaby roof tops.
Throughout
Bees’ Needs Week you will see a bee-themed makeover of the iconic Carnaby Street
arch, plus an art trail of honey bees around the 14 streets of Carnaby,
illustrated by London based artist Lizzie King. In
addition to this, there will be a special pop-up ‘Hive’ situated
at 3 Carnaby Street which will be hosting
a range of fun educational games, installations and talks in partnership with
Defra, alongside charities, universities, businesses and landowners. Make sure
to stop by to discover the low-down on the buzzing beauties and the chance to
get close to all the bee action.
Bee

be serving bee themed cupcakes on Friday 13 & Saturday 14 July.
You can clench
your thirst with a honey infused ale at SACRED Café or a refreshing 'The Bee's
